Karen and Ginger read in the paper that there were lots of Humpback whales in Monterey Bay right now, so they booked a trip with Sanctuary Cruises out of Moss Landing, California. There were numerous whales right outside the harbor, we were on a 4 hour trip but never had to go very far from shore. There were also many sea lions which went into feeding frenzies over schools of anchovies. The whales were also eating the anchovies. The weather was perfect, overcast but still in the morning so it was easy to see and several whales came close to our boat. A marine biologist was onboard as our guide for this tour of Monterey Bay. In addition to these still shots, we practiced taking some videos. The boat was moving with the swells and we don't have a view finder, just the screen at the back of the camera, so these videos are not steady. Ginger edited them and loaded the best clips to YouTube, embedded links to the videos are after the still shots.
Here are our videos on YouTube, click on the center play icon to start each one. Mouse over the bottom part of each frame for options like pause, restart, expand to full screen (hit Esc to return to smaller view) and volume control. Also, click on the settings icon (3rd from the right on the bottom) to select 1080p quality for highest resolution. All these videos were shot at high def on our small but mighty Sony DSC-RX100 Camera!
