Obituary

Henry Cook, died peacefully, age 95 years, longtime resident of Lyons, IL. For many years he and his wife and children lived at 4025 Amelia Avenue in Lyons; after his wife Evelyn's death on 10/20/1991, he resided at Lyons Grove Senior Apartments and then lived with his son, Deacon Michael Cook.

He had been a faithful member of Saint Hugh Parish in Lyons for over 65 years, during the time Father Stedronski was pastor - 1934-47, Fr. Cornelius Murray 1947-1967, Fr. Keating 1967-1977, Fr. Multhauf 1978-1990, Fr. O'Connor 1991-1994, Fr. Stockus 1994, Fr. Schreiber 1994-1995, and Fr. Moran 1995-2005 and Rev. Fr. Robert J. Burnell 2005-present. Henry always respected each of the pastors of Saint Hugh in Lyons. He served as a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister from the time of the Second Vatican Council. He was also a Minister of Care and parish sacristan.

For over 50 years he was a member of the Machinists Union. Henry was employed at Western Electric in Cicero, the Goss Plant in Cicero, as well as Electro Motive. He also worked as a handy man and did odd jobs for different people in the community.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn; and by his parents, Henry Kucharski (died June 1958) and Rosalia Marie Cook (died July 1983), nee Wardinski.

He is the loving father of Michael Cook (wife, Rose) of Joliet, IL, Dr. Terrence Cook (wife, Beth Stetzler) of Pittsburg, TX and Philip Cook (wife, Penny) of Scottsdale, AZ.

He is the grandfather of Jonathan Cook, Sarah (Cook) Thomas (husband William Thomas), Aaron Cook (fiancee, Devon Hanley), Patrick John Cook, Tony Cook and Von Stetzler, son of Beth Stetzler.

He is the great-grandfather of Sophia Rose Mary Thomas, Olivia Anna Thomas and Shay, daughter of Von Stetzler.

He is also preceded in death by all of his siblings and their spouses and some of their children; his sister Gertrude and her husband Clare Puls; his sister Lilliane, her husband Paul Ruck and their daughter-in-law, Marilyn Ruck; his sister Florence, her first husband James Edward Gorski, her second husband Frank Zielinski and her daughter, Joyce Ann (Gorski) Hart; his brother Ramon and his wife Emily; his sister Loretta, her husband Emil Wolnik and their son, Wayne Wolnik.

Other relatives who have preceded him in death are his sisters-in-law and their husbands, Lilianne (husband, George) Stupka, Levia (husband Lyman) Martin Sr., Louise Jenkins, and her son who died in the Korean War, Carlie Jenkins, and a cousin, Delwin Stednitz.

He is survived by loving nieces and nephews and their spouses and children; Dick and Sylvia Puls and their children Judy, Rich, Donna, and David; Paul Ruck Jr., and his children Steven, Leslie and Paula and his current wife Marcia; Joyce Hart's children Kimberly, Pamala, Christopher, Scott and Dawn; Kathleen (Gorski) Sommer, her children Chad and Brian and their father Ted Sommer; Ramon Jr. and Linda Cook and their children, Mary Cook and her children; Ginger Wolnik and her partner Karen Enz; Michele (Wolnik) Ellis and James Ellis and their children Caitlin and Patrick; Keith Wolnik and his wife Montana Meadows; Renee (Wolnik) Sovak and Dale Sovak and their children Erika and Julia.

Funeral Service Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, 9 a.m., from Tower Home for Funerals, 4007 S. Joliet Ave. (but not Joliet Road, between Harlem & First Ave., just south of Ogden Ave.), Lyons, IL 60534, to St. Hugh Church for 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
