"Keep it Simple" Webdesign

Want a web page that is simple, clean, and easy to read? It should load quickly even with an older computer using a slow modem. When the purpose is to provide basic information, not entertainment, then a web page should avoid distracting background wallpaper, unnecessary graphics and music or other sounds. Most of all, no moving graphics (also known as "dancing baloney!") The print should be large and the page accessible by any type of computer, web browser and operating system. That means no frames, overlaying images, picture icons, dynamic mouse-over pop ups and other Javascript features.

Ginger Wolnik has been creating and maintaining basic web sites for herself and for various clubs and organizations since 1996. She uses a text editor, not a web design tool, to make sure that the web page source only contains necessary code so it will load as quickly as possible. Most importantly, she subscribes to the Any Browser philosophy and follows their accessible site design guidelines.
